Budding Canberra musicians to benefit from Rock’s Cool grant

The Rock’s Cool program at the University of Canberra (UC) has received a $5,000 grant which will help kickstart the careers of young Canberra musicians.

The funding was provided by Domino’s registered charity Give for Good and local Canberra multi-unit franchisee Chad Cable, who are supporting the program for the second consecutive year.

Rock’s Cool was established by UC graduate Rohan Reece, who studied a Bachelor of Contemporary Music at UC’s Brisbane campus.

“It’s fantastic to receive the Give for Good grant as it will allow us to continue supporting young musicians in their careers,” he said.

“Rock’s Cool helps young people to make connections, learn new skills, improve their understanding of business and the music industry, as well as set themselves up as sole traders, so they can start making an income from their music.

“Local community members donate musical instruments, which we restore for the students to use, and run workshops such as how to put new strings on a guitar.

“Through the program, participants have access to UC business and entrepreneurship students who help them to develop their business and establish a website and social media profile, so they can start marketing themselves and build their following.

“The students also get one-on-one complementary mentoring to discuss their goals and how to achieve them, plus access to an online music course to further their skills”.

Domino’s franchisee Chad Cable said he is passionate about supporting education and youth initiatives in the community.

“The local Domino’s store has been supporting Rock’s Cool for some time by providing pizzas to keep the budding musicians going during the weekly workshops and we’re excited to be able to provide a grant for the program again this year,” he said.

“At Domino’s, we strive to give back to the communities in which we operate. We are passionate about supporting programs that provide opportunities for young people to gain work experience, learn new skills and connect socially with their peers.

“Rock’s Cool is a fantastic initiative and one we are very proud to support.”

The Give for Good Franchisee Grants Program is an initiative that enables Domino’s Australian franchisees to apply for a grant on behalf of registered charities and not-for-profit organisations in their local community of up to $5,000.
